Recently moved to Augusta from Philadelphia and thought we had left fine dining behind. What a pleasant surprise to find Broad Street Market. This is definitely the best dining we've experienced in Augusta.

Just walking in the door our anticipation was high. With sophisticated decor, open kitchen and big city ambiance we could have been in NY, Philadelphia, Atlanta but without the crowds, wait or need for reservations on a Saturday night.

The service, food and wine selection did not disappoint. We started with the Market Caesar Salad, a lighter and more interesting interpretation of the classic. Tender romaine topped with just ripe avocado chunks was dressed with a jaunty version of Caesar dressing accented nicely with lime in place of the usual lemon. A sprinkle of parmasean crisps, far superior to the usual over-seasoned croutons, topped off this pleasant start to a fine meal.

As with the salad, the generously portioned Angus rib-eye took standard fare and made it special with a perfectly seasoned, glistening exterior that sliced like butter to reveal a slightly purple center. Accents of sauteed mushrooms and whipped potatoes were a simple but satisfying compliment to the excellently aged and flavored meat.

The Grilled Salmon of the evening featured a crispy exterior with a rare juicy center topped with sweet-sour tang of Jicama pineapple salad sparked with cilantro. Sweet potato croquettes, grilled baby zucchini and summer squash completed the preparation.

For dessert the french silk chocolate pie was rich and smooth though a bit denser than the 'mouse-like' description supplied by our server. But the nut crust and airy cream topping provided a pleasing textural contrast and the flavor was excellent. Finally the coffee was a rich, thick and wonderfully full bodied brew.

All in all this was a great find for some transplanted foodies in search of a great meal. This is definitely the place to dine in Augusta. We'll be back.

The restaurant is a pleasant change to the dining scene in Augusta. Broad Street Market provides elegant, fine dining with reasonable prices in a trendy modern setting.

For the first course, we had duck with goat cheese on toast and mushroom topped with prime rib. Both were excellent and we cleaned our plate rather quickly.

The second course, we shared the soft shell crab salad, which was large enough for two. Very tasty.

For the third course, we had pan-seared grouper and scallops. The grouper was seared to a perfect crisp with a nice creamy sauce with bacon and potatoes. However, the grouper could have used a little spice. The sea scallops were the best sea scallops that I've had in a while.

The desert was only okay. We had the strawberry shortcake-like selection. The cake was a bit dry. I would have liked to have seen more of a variety in deserts.

Overall, I'm incredibly happy that this restaurant is here and am looking forward to going back in the future.
